Next Sermon – 9:00 AM on Sunday
Like all churches, there’s a story behind the life of For His Glory Community Church. Some of that is yet to be written as we are young church plant as of August 2012, but still, there is a story to be told.
For over 20 years, my wife and I attended Calvary Chapel East Anaheim in Orange County. This was our home, family, and church. We met there, got married there, had six kids there, made wonderful friends there and grew in Christ tremendously there. Who we are today is owed greatly to the amazing work of God’s Spirit at that church. It was there that I discovered a passion to serve God, both in pastoring people and in teaching the bible. I had the privilege to served on staff for the last eight years of our time at Calvary Chapel East Anaheim – as a youth pastor, young adults pastor, young marrieds pastor, and as a general assistant pastor. During that time, a desire to plant a church grew steadily in our hearts and for three years we prayed about God’s timing to launch out and plant a church. That came in August 2012.
As we prayed about when and where to plant a church, God slowly formed a group of people around us with a similar desire. This group eventually became 20 big and has become the core team of For His Glory Community Church. Right from the start there was something unique about this team. For one, this was a team with a lot of children. In fact, from the beginning we had more children than adults in the church! Instantly FHG had a budding children’s ministry. Secondly, this was a team with a passion. They were mature believers and they had deep desires to see the lost won for Christ. What resonated in their hearts was what resonated in our hearts, and that was to strive in the grace of God to know Jesus and proclaim Jesus. Among this core team were two men that God has tremendously blessed my life with and they joined me in forming the eldership board that leads this church.
August 2012 came and For His Glory Community Church was started in the city of Claremont. At first we met in our home, then in parks, then in the Women’s club, and then settled into a wonderful little school. It was during this time, through our fellowship and service together, that much of what we value and do as a church was formed. God taught us what community meant, what living on mission together meant. He formed in us a desire to be a praying church. Families became a big theme of what God was doing at FHG – healthy, missional, Christ-centered, gospel loving families.
At the start of 2013, the Lord led the elders and I to move For His Glory Community Church to the city of Fullerton. The full story can be read here. As we embark on our next chapter as a church, this verse continues to guide our steps and sustains our hope:
“Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” (Romans 5:2)
May that grace also be your experience in Jesus. I pray you find a loving Christ-centered church to call home, and if that here is at For His Glory Community Church, we will be blessed.
