WHEN DID IT BEGIN?

“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of GOD, that He may exalt you in due time” ~ 1 Peter 5:6
JUST WONDERING
When did eternity start in my life? Was it the day I was born? Or was it the day I became new in Christ? I have a picture of Gods arms open wide to receive me, but when exactly was that? Maybe it was …In the beginning, when He formed man with His very own hands. When He took the clay and sculpted the face and body? In my mind I see those hands, free of scars gently making ears and mouth, forming eyes, arms and legs and then ever so gently blowing life into him. He must have smiled as He nodded. He saw that man needed a companion and put him to sleep, touched his side and removed a rib and gave him woman, to share his life.
THANKFUL FOR STRETCHED HANDS
I think of the fall and the sorrow we caused Him; so much pain and still His hands reached out to cover our shame. The first sacrifice for our sin – the animal skin He clothed us with. Thousands of years passed and we were separated from Him, until one day, He came; this time in a body like the one He had formed. He dwelt among us and yet so different. This time His hands, the very ones He used to create, were stretched across the cross. He bore our shame. Instead of sacrificing an animal, this time He sacrificed Himself. Instead of covering our sins with the blood of the animal He washed them away for all time with His blood – He became the sacrifice.
MY PLACE IN REPEATING HISTORY
Repeatly throughout history man falls – God calls, man turns his back, God takes us back.
“Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and He delivered them from their distress.” ~ Psalms 107:6
When I say man I also mean me! I ran from all I knew to be right and true (As it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. Romans 3:10 & 11) But in the same way that God called out to Adam and Eve; He called out to me. I may not have recognized His voice but He was calling, putting things in my life and allowing me to see the futility of life without Him. Just like with Adam; He breathed new life into me, giving me His Holy Spirit to dwell with me, teach me, to help me understand His will for my life.
ANSWER: IT BEGAN ON THE CROSS
When did eternity with Christ begin for me? There in the garden; or was it the day of my salvation? Some would argue one or the other – I think at the cross. There God put my sin and my shame on His Son, freeing me for all time from the chains that shackled my life even before it began.
I now raise my hands in worship to the God who loved me so that He has chosen to spend eternity with me and I too chose Him.
